		<description>Great post,
I like your analogy of the oil painting and the pain not drying for years.

Leadership, if given the choice and not just having it thrust upon you, is a continuous journey.

One of the biggest challenges is recognizing what we learn in Proverbs: Humility comes before Honor. So early on we must learn to understand what we know, as well as what we do not know but need to know.

We also must recognize this process requires others that you will meet as the paint dries. What worries me is the next generation of leaders are trying to dry the pain with electronic hair dryers themselves and they lack the mentors we had. This is such a problem I started a new thread in my blog called: Mentor Moments in hopes of helping the next generation get grounded in the basics we once learned.

You can read a summary of the first 12 mentor moments at: http://nosmokeandmirrors.wordpress.com/2009/08/12/12-mentor-moments-to-help-leaders-grow-their-businesses-profitably/ .

Great content and I will direct people to you.
